Watch: Two Great, South(ern) Asian Weddings
For Dreaming of: Visually-Stunning, Exotic Nuptials.

Films
There have been two stunning, wedding-centric feature films from this century that come to top of mind when we yearn for a little foreign romance - both of which highlight their decadent locations in India and Singapore. We love a little 'armchair travel' when we're not in the air ourselves, and these are two movies that are sure to get you in the mood for an exotic journey.
“Monsoon Wedding” (2001) - Director Mira Nair ("The Namesake" and "Mississippi Masala" and mother of NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani) created one of the most western-friendly (read: under 2-hours) Bollywood features, a feast for the senses to anyone who enjoys the visually-dazzling hypnosis of an Indian wedding. Highlighting social inequalities, and the pressures of the obligatory wedding ceremony, this film is a lovely way to travel to the subcontinent. Watch the full feature free on YouTube.
“Crazy Rich Asians” (2018) - A more recent addition to the canon of great movies, this film is noted not only for a fun and entertaining script – but also for celebrating Asian actors in the American mainstream. Awkwafina is a riot, Henry Golding is dreamy, and Michelle Yeoh is, as always, iconic. Not only is the elaborate water-filled walk-down-the-aisle wedding truly memorable, but the cinematic highlights of Singapore's newish skyline are fodder for travel inspiration. Stream on Apple and Amazon.
P.S.: the soundtracks for both of these films are great.
