Watch (& Listen): Forrest Gump
For Dreaming of: The American South
Movie
Not that we needed a reminder to re-watch one of the 90’s most iconic films. Except that – maybe we did. Tom Hanks’ role as an American icon and someone emblematic of 20th Century Americana itself is history worth repeating. We think it pairs perfectly with a road trip across the South, as featured in our latest publication. Forrest claims home in Green Bow, Alabama, but most of the filming was actually done in South Carolina and Georgia. Check out our road trip recommendations to see the spot where Forrest runs down the tree-lined driveway (outside of Beaufort), and the bench that he sat on doling out chocolates in Savannah’s Chippewa Square.
Available on Amazon Prime and Apple TV.
Worthy of note is the equally-iconic soundtrack, which is a time capsule of 60s & 70s gold. Superb tracks for your road trip playlist include:
“Fortunate Son” by Credence Clearwater Revival
“Break on Through (to the Other Side)” by The Doors
“San Francisco” by Scott McKenzie
“Blowin’ in the Wind” by Joan Baez
“California Dreaming” by the Mamas & the Papas
“Get Together” by the Youngbloods
