Barcelona, the capital of Spanish region of Catalonia, is a lively and youthful city embracing the spirit of the Mediterranean Sea of which it embraces. A center of art and architecture, the city’s cosmopolitan culture is distinctive if not flamboyant, with names such as Gaudi and Miro known round-the-world. From anatomical cathedrals along searing avenues that cut through meandering medieval-era streets, and market purveyors selling a kaleidoscope of culinary wares, you can walk and eat until your heart’s content in Barcelona. Chefs from this corner of Spain are a special breed: some of the world’s best restaurants are located here, including a fair number of Michelin stars. Locals go all night - siestas are taken in the afternoon hours, so always check opening times before going anywhere - dinners are rarely eaten before 9 or 10pm, and clubs don’t get going before midnight. And, there’s a lively gay and party scene in this city, one that runs from dusk until dawn.
