Travel Research: American South Road Trip - Part Two

Curated Recommendations and Guide

Two months ago, we shared the first portion of an extensive road trip across the culinary gems of the American South – from New Orleans to Savannah and Charleston. Now, we present the second part of the journey as we move northward from the mountains of Western North Carolina and into Central Virginia’s horse country. Both destinations are perfect for summer wandering or for viewing the most exquisite autumnal colors.

Starting in the popular artistic haven of Asheville, home to a growing fleet of prominent chefs and America’s biggest private home (The Biltmore Estate), explore cinematic waterfalls in temperate rain forest hills, and shop for antiques in small towns. The real icon of this trip, however, is the Blue Ridge Parkway, potentially America’s most scenic road that runs the spine of the Appalachian Mountains. It’ll take at least 2 days to drive the serpentine, low-speed route, as you’ll likely be stopping every few minutes to gawk at the views that will inevitably captivate you. We share a few suggestions for pit stops along the way before ending in the vineyards and rolling hills of historic central Virginia. Stay at one of our favorite getaways outside of the DC area (we crave the beignets that butlers bring every morning with your coffee at this inn), and immerse yourself into the historical sights of the region that has played a significant host to America’s founders.

Syllogi’s ‘Travel Research’ publication is an exclusive offering for our members, giving you selected access to our collection of travel projects and guides from our library. As Travel Researchers, this represents highlights from our signature offering to private clients who commission us to provide personalized research for their upcoming travels, and also projects that we have created from our own personal travel. Given the custom nature of each piece, they may skew more family-oriented, or towards a single traveller, or perhaps towards someone who is a foodie, or someone who loves nature. Either way, this intel serves a great guide and overview for anyone travelling to the featured destination.
