Time Travel: My First Time in Paris, 2001
Arriving and falling for the City of Light
Storytelling by Gray Shealy and Erin Washington
TRAVEL JOURNAL: A TEN MINUTE PODCAST
In the spirit of all things Parisian Olympiad this week, I’ve opened my travel journal back to October of 2001, the first time I’d ever seen Paris. I’m swept off my feet by the Tunisian driver, Marwan, and Carina Barone, the woman from whom I’ve rented a room; by the accordions of Montmartre; by "Le Neveu de Rameau" and “La Vie en Rose.” Take a listen as Erin and I compare experiences about how we have never found Paris to be rude or dirty - contrary to popular opinion - but rather magical like the movies implore that we should. The diversity and child-friendly appeal of this city feels perfectly suited and home to something as sundry and as beautiful as the Olympic Games.

Leaving a travel legacy: I started writing a journal of my travels when I was a teenager. From my first trip overseas to today (where I have travelled to over 100 countries and territories), listen and watch as I open up these writings for the first time in years and re-live the experiences that helped shape my travel legacy. Travel back in time with us in each edition as we reminisce upon a past adventure.
