Taste from Afar: Mint Tea

Just about anywhere you go in Morocco, or Northwest Africa, for that matter, you’ll likely find hot Mint Tea. Locals will serve it to you when visiting their homes, and you can find it as an alternative to alcohol in the many cafes. I love having it at the bar in the Royal Mansour Hotel in Marrakech, where it is served in the traditional style, poured in a long, cascading stream from a kettle to aerate it, and sipped in a tea glass (the size of shot glasses). Be ready for sugar–it is served tooth-ache-sweet.
