Taste from Afar: Japanese KitKats and Sweets
For Dreaming of: Sweets, as Playful as One Can Find.
Japanese sweets are truly playful, delightful, and EVERYWHERE. Their history with sweets goes back before sugar was widely available in the country. They used natural ingredients to sweeten their desserts, particularly red bean paste which remains a staple in Japanese desserts to this day.
Today, dessert and sweets shops scatter every street and range from traditional offerings such as mochi balls to matcha-flavored soft serve, and classics transformed with Japanese flavors like matcha & strawberry-flavored KitKats. Some of our favorites are found at the many 7-11’s and vending machines in the country, a daily pit stop made during our time there. Indulge your sweet tooth!
