Taste from Afar: The Rickey
For Dreaming of: the secrets spilled over a Washingtonian cocktail.
DC's Official Cocktail
Since 2009, July is known as “Rickey Month” in DC, where the famous cocktail known as the city’s official drink, is celebrated in various bars across the city. Concocted of either bourbon or gin, plus lime, and seltzer, it is sure to be a delight among politicians and locals escaping from the summer sear.
Speaking of bourbon, check out this local whiskey that has been revived after someone discovered an empty bottle of the once popular local distillery that vanished after prohibition. Mt. Pleasant Club Whiskey is the pandemic revival project of local residents, and can be found in select shops and bars across the city, including our favorite dive bar, The Raven (p.s. it’s cash only old-school).
But, if you’re looking for a slightly more in-the-know beverage joint alongside political insiders, try the underground bar Off the Record, underneath the Hay-Adams hotel.
