Stay: Pater Noster Private Island

An exclusive island, anchored by a lighthouse off the Swedish Coast.

Stay: Pater Noster Private Island

Kattegat Bay (Gothenburg), Sweden

Private Island for 18 guests, 9 rooms, from 1600 eur per couple

The creator of Pater Noster asked himself "What is luxury?" The answer was unanimously supported by everyone who helped him build this now semi-famous islet: "an isolated island far away from everything in raw nature." Indeed, just 8km off the coast of Sweden, as the waters linger out toward the North Sea, and about an hour's boat ride from the city of Gothenburg, is this little rock with cottages and a lighthouse. The rooms are Scandi-modern with unexpected color and texture, there are saunas, hot tubs, and even a vegetable garden. Guests are served full board meals, including a multi-course seafood dinner noted for the local lobster. And every guest is encouraged to learn more about the oceans before they leave. It's just the sort of place you dream of escaping for a summer's weekend.

Every publication will feature one unique restaurant, hotel, activity, or other travel discovery that stood out in our research. Some of these are established institutions that deserve repeat merit, while others are hidden gems that are often off the radar of most. Our commentary is meant to be brief, summarizing the scale and offerings of a place, as well as the best and worst of relevant reviews found across the web – allowing our clients to quickly discern if this a good fit for them.
