Stay: Park Hyatt Palacio Duhau

Buenos Aires, Argentina

165 rooms, from 560 usd

There are other, more seemingly 'palatial' luxury hotels like the Faena and the Alvear Palace populating popularity lists in BA. But none are as subtly luxurious as the Palacio Duhau. It's not as dated as the latter, nor as awkwardly modern as the former...but just a perfect balance in between. Located in the posh and central Recoleta Neighborhood, it is on par with most Park Hyatts that we've been to: contemporary and thoughtful, with a dash of tradition. The main public spaces are housed in a palace from the 1930s, while most of the guest rooms occupy a modern tower with floor to ceiling windows, slick bathrooms, and warm bedrooms. There's a pool, spa, and gardens in which to rest. But our favorite place to be is inside the gilded dining room, bathed in silvery pewter crown molding, sipping on delightful cafe submarinos (Argentine hot chocolate) and mezzalunas (thin croissants). On sunny days, sitting on the terrace, with dramatic stairs that roll into the gardens, is perfect for al fresco lunches, whether you're a guest, or not.
