Stay: Minos Beach Art Hotel
A sophisticated, low-key alternative to the mega-beach resorts of Crete.
Crete, Greece
125 bungalows, from 357 eur
Just on the outskirts of the town of Agios and a 15 minute walk to the center, this boutique resort sits on a peninsula facing east. Two of our members have stayed here in the last 2 years, and they both recommend it whole-heartedly, noting superb food and incredibly colorful sunrises. Like the location of Agios itself, the hotel feels private, low-key, and secluded. 1, 2, and 3 bedroom villas with private plunge pools. It's luxurious but not ostentatious. Small public beach on property. 4 restaurants and a full service spa onsite. Windsurfing, sailing, and scuba available. Some seasons require a 4-night minimum stay. A few reviewers say the gym is small but adequate, others say the rooms need a refresh; generally though, reviews are very positive, calling this place “relaxing” and note friendly staff, extensive gardens. A waterfront bungalow is recommended. 45-minute drive to the Heraklion Airport. A member of Marriott's Design Hotels.

Every publication will feature one unique restaurant, hotel, activity, or other travel discovery that stood out in our research. Some of these are established institutions that deserve repeat merit, while others are hidden gems that are often off the radar of most. Our commentary is meant to be brief, summarizing the scale and offerings of a place, as well as the best and worst of relevant reviews found across the web – allowing our clients to quickly discern if this a good fit for them.
