Stay: Hidden Moose Lodge

Glacier National Park / Whitefish, Montana

15 Rooms from 155 USD per night

When it comes to cozy, the Hidden Moose Lodge is a certified expert. The quaint bed and breakfast in Whitefish, Montana, a landing spot for those looking to explore Glacier National Park, has everything you’d expect in a mountain destination. The lobby is host to the grand fireplace, hand-carved furniture with flannel blankets abound, and views into the surrounding woods. This space also plays host to a rotating breakfast, made fresh daily by the small staff and has lodge staples like bacon, fresh juice, hot coffee, and eggs - everything you need before heading out on a hiking adventure. Don’t forget the huckleberry pancakes, made using the famous berry local to the region, with extra helpings if you need more fuel.

In the evenings, take a dip in the hot tub while the cold air surrounds you or cozy up in the perfectly curated rooms. Each with their own theme, we stayed in the ski-centric room, which had light blue tones and ski equipment hanging from the walls, and each has their own balcony to sit and take in the sounds of the wilderness.

Here you’ll find friendly, helpful staff willing to go above and beyond to make your visit as wonderful as possible. Some, like us, may be a bit turned off by the traditional tourist brochure stand next to the front desk - which screams of a 3 star inn from yesteryear, and the bathrooms could certainly use a refresh – but otherwise, we both loved our stay, especially for its affordability relative to the adjacent ultra-pricey competition. Its location, just 5 minutes beyond downtown, is perfect to feel like you’ve escaped, just slightly out of reach. You’ll leave feeling cozy, well-rested, and ready to take on the cold.
