Stay: Capella Sydney
A new, historic gem, just steps from the Opera
CBD, Sydney, Australia
192 rooms, from 406 usd per night
Well-located in the CBD (Central Business District), one block from the main transit terminal at Circular Quay, is one of Sydney’s newest luxury hotels, an outpost of the Singapore-based brand, noted for its high-touch Asian hospitality. Housed in a historical brick building (the New South Wales former Department of Education), with a focus on Aboriginal art, there’s a central atrium that lets in light among green walls, and fresh, modern furnishings. On other floors, there’s a small spa, indoor pool and gym. Opened in 2023, reviewers call it “Flawless,” “old fashioned hospitality.” One of our clients stayed there and highly recommended it, raving about their custom cocktails, and the staff that does a “farmer’s market run” daily, bringing her coffee and flowers (a favorite) back to her room. On my visit, I was greeted by the same grace. As such, it’s our pick for a special stay in Sydney, even over the more well-known Park Hyatt, with its signature views of the Opera House (that come at a high price–often at least double what the Capella charges).
P.S., if you’re looking for a more reasonable deal for views of the Opera House, check out the Shangri La’s Opera View Club Floor Rooms.
