Stay & See: Beach Plum Farm

A cozy, enriching farm stay on the Jersey shore

Stay & See: Beach Plum Farm

Cape May, NJ

6 cottages (the largest sleeping up to 8 guests), from $640 usd/night per cottage

Located two miles from the beaches of Cape May–the Southernmost point of the Jersey Shore– Beach Plum is a quintessential farm retreat. The 62-acre property is a working farm and features a market housed in an Amish barn, stocked with fresh produce, goods crafted on site, and homewares to take home. Even if you’re not staying there, it’s an ideal place to visit and have lunch, stock up on goods, and enjoy their lush gardens. Offerings include farm tours and overnight stays, but the shining star of the property is their dinner series: a farm-to-table dining experience under whimsical string lights. And while the fresh seafood may give it away, one feels far removed from the hustle and bustle of a traditional beach destination.

The newest addition to their offerings are their six guest cottages and barns, some renovated from the 1700 and 1800s, some new. Simultaneously relaxed, comfortable, and elegant, these accommodations offer an enticing alternative to the classic Jersey Shore getaway, each with full kitchens and laundry facilities. Stays are not inclusive of food and beverage which can get pricey, a common complaint among reviewers, but others like that the rooms come stocked with homemade jams and produce. Rates vary drastically between high and low season, and the market can be a bit sparse when the farm is not in full production. However, all is redeemed come winter when Beach Plum Farm transforms like a scene from a Hallmark Movie.
