Sip: Seumas Bar at Sligachan Hotel
An otherworldly scotch collection worthy of a Martian landscape.
Isle of Skye, Scotland
There’s nothing pretentious about this pub with rooms, sitting squarely in the middle of nowhere. It’s surrounded by an asphalt parking lot, and the design isn’t much to talk about. But what is impressive is the collection of scotch whiskey bottles that completely enshrouds the bar, nearly 270 degrees. Most any distillery in Scotland has their noted brew here, so it’s a must-stop for any scotch lover. The food isn’t half bad either, and they offer such classics as “cullin skink,” a smoked haddock soup, and haggis, including a vegetarian version. Perhaps more worthy of note are the surroundings of this hotel’s parking lot: waterfalls, a river, conical-shaped mountains, and crags dominate the landscape. Honestly, it felt like I was looking at Mars, given that the environs were so unworldly and different from anywhere I have ever been. Bonus: just down the road is Talisker, Skye’s most noted distillery.
