Shop: Bold Fork Books
A bookstore of worldly culinary expertise.
3064 Mount Pleasant St., Mount Pleasant, Washington, DC
Mount Pleasant is one of the city’s most diverse and sought-after neighborhoods for locals, with tree-lined streets, family-friendly parks, and a respectable variety of shops and eateries lining the area’s principle street. One somewhat new-comer on the street just so happens to be one of our favorite places in the city: Bold Fork Books. A bookstore is a great fit for a city of intellectuals, and DC has no shortage of independents like Kramers and Politics & Prose. But how about a tie-in with the city’s new rising cadre of gourmands? This shop hits that mark perfectly: selling only cookbooks (and a few culinary oddities), you can find practically anything your kitchen and taste buds crave. From essential volumes of Julia Child and Larousse, to recipe collections from Sri Lanka or Oaxaca, kid-friendly illustrations, and even recycled, historical reads, they have it all. It’s also a staple gathering spot in the neighborhood with its ever-popular event series: in April alone, there are 8 separate events featuring new authors.

Every publication will feature one unique restaurant, hotel, activity, or other travel discovery that stood out in our research. Some of these are established institutions that deserve repeat merit, while others are hidden gems that are often off the radar of most. Our commentary is meant to be brief, summarizing the scale and offerings of a place, as well as the best and worst of relevant reviews found across the web – allowing our clients to quickly discern if this a good fit for them.
