Follow a truffle hunter and his dogs through the oak forests of Central Crete
Rouvas Forest, Crete, Greece
From 150 eur per person
There are few delicacies more renowned than the European black truffle – and most foragers keep their locations a guarded secret. But not with this experience we just so happened upon: follow Niko Kapsalis and his trusted dogs as you roam the oak forests of Crete (about an hour outside of Heraklion) in search of truffles. Have wild tea on a blanket as lunch is cooked over the fire in front of you – and dust your entree with the truffles you discovered. It seems like the perfect mix of exotic and humble, luxury and bare-bones. Groups of 3 to 8, and private tours available.

Every publication will feature one unique restaurant, hotel, activity, or other travel discovery that stood out in our research. Some of these are established institutions that deserve repeat merit, while others are hidden gems that are often off the radar of most. Our commentary is meant to be brief, summarizing the scale and offerings of a place, as well as the best and worst of relevant reviews found across the web – allowing our clients to quickly discern if this a good fit for them.
