Read: "Island by Island Guide to the Azores"
Deciding which Azorean Island to visit first is a challenge.
Article from Condé Nast Traveller
Some say it’s the Atlantic’s version of Hawaii. Indeed, the 9 islands of Portugal’s Azores are still relatively undiscovered, yet surprisingly easy to reach from both the US East Coast and Portugal (there are direct flights from each) given their central Atlantic location. But, deciding which island to go to is a little tricky. São Miguel is the largest and most accessible, covered in lush gardens of hydrangea flowers in the spring. Tiny Pico is topped by a distinct dormant volcano and offers wineries and extraterrestrial views, not to mention whale-watching just off the coast.
This guide from Condé Nast Traveler gives a good summary for each of the islands, allowing you to decide which is best for your visit.
