Taste from Afar: Mesh Om Ali

Egyptian Sweet

This extremely easy phyllo-dough and spiced-cream dessert is trending in a few videos across social media kitchens, and we find its layered, crispy textures and crunch of pistachio to be highly reminiscent of sweet treats we’ve had in Cairo and Northern Africa.

Its use of premade, frozen phyllo, and the act of folding it into a glass casserole dish not only make it a quick win, but also a great activity when cooking with children. Furthermore, its impressive appearance makes it look like a good bit of effort went into this delectable alternative to a brownie or sheet cake.
