Music - Add these timeless tunes to your pre-trip soundtrack

While we remain afar – dreaming of our own Greek adventures to come – we can rely on music to sustain and inspire our visions. Film often has a way of integrating song to give us a strong sense of place and memory. Here are a few timeless tunes from cinematic features over the years that are distinctively of the Hellenic spirit to put on your packing list.

Misirlou - Originally a Greek Rebetiko tune that has been remixed and used en-repeat, most recognizable from Pulp Fiction and Taxi.

O Choros Tou Sakaina - A classic Greek instrumental with a distinct cadence and progression that some may recognize from Mighty Aphrodite.

The Children of Piraeus - Melina Merkouri’s performance of the song in Never on Sunday has a timeless, scratchy lullaby-like quality.

Darla Dirladada - A traditional fisherman’s song from the island of Kalymnos, this has been performed by several Greek singers, but French chanteuse Dalida made it an international hit.

Aspro Harti e Zoe - The upbeat theme from the Durrells has the spirit of sun and youthful optimism brimming from this short composition.
