Intel: Visa for Europe
American Citizens Headed to Europe Need this Visa.
Europe is getting just a tad further from the Americans in 2025. Having long enjoyed visa-free travel across the Atlantic, US Citizens will now need to apply for ETIAS (or an electronic travel authorization) prior to their trips to the Schengen Area of the European Union.
What should you know?:
- Apply online at least 96 hours before travel
- Most applications are approved within minutes
- Cost is 7 euros
- The EITAS is valid for 3 years, or until your current passport expires
- You can enter all of the European Union countries multiple times on one application
- It will be electronically-linked to your passport, so there will be no extra papers to carry around
When will it start?:
- The system was already supposed to be enacted, but due to complications with the Olympic Games and other factors, officials expect the system to be fully-operational in the first half of 2025.
