Intel: Safety in Brazil
Tread Carefully!
Just a bit of advice from us at Syllogi. Brazil is mesmerizing. Brazil is beautiful. But it’s also important to remember: it’s pretty dangerous, especially in the cities. Kidnappings happen. And robberies are common, but it doesn’t mean you can’t visit.
Practice common sense, and be aware of your surroundings at all times.
- DO NOT bring any valuable jewelry or items to Brazil at all. Leave your gold watches and diamond rings behind. We wouldn’t even trust the hotel safe for them. Leave them at home.
- DO use your hotel safe to store your passport, extra cash, cards.
- When you go out walking, take the minimum number of items with you – perhaps just one credit card (Visa is more likely to be accepted), some cash, and your room key. Leave the rest behind.
- Keep your phone out of sight.
- Watch your purses and bags, especially when sitting at outdoor cafes.
Note: most of this is for the major cities like Rio. You can be more relaxed if you’re at a remote beach or jungle resort.
