Intel: Neighborhood Heritage Trails
A casual, educated stroll.

Venture into many of DC’s historical neighborhoods, and you might see the large sidewalk plaques with a walking map, ample text and photographs explaining what’s around. These are a part of 17 different “Heritage Trails” that are great for a few hours of casual strolling. See where Jimmy Dean’s band played in the upper floor of a local house; or where a clandestine gay bar existed in the 1940s; or visit the fort where the only serving US president came under enemy fire in war. Our favorite walks include Logan Circle and U Street, but others will get you deeper into the city, such as Tenleytown and Brightwood.
