Intel: Hike to the Top of the Gates
At one of Kyoto’s most famous sites, bypass the crowds for a better shot.
Fushimi-Inari Taisha and the Senbon Torii path are one of the most famous sites in Kyoto if not all of Japan, consisting of over 10,000 golden-orange gates. Born the feature of thousands of social media reels, crowds clamour by the entrance to get a selfie. One of the most common mistakes we see is people stopping and queuing to get an uninterrupted picture of themselves within the front gates. However, if you bypass this moment and begin hiking up, you’ll soon find that you’ll have the trail almost entirely to yourself. The entire climb takes about 2 hours and includes almost 30,000 shrines, but if an “Instagrammable” selfie is what you’re after, you won’t have to climb long.
