Hire someone who can figure out the tricks for you.
At one point in my life, I had accumulated over one million points to spend on the ever-elusive (and ultra expensive) business class tickets I needed to get to Australia. (Going to the South Pacific on points is sometimes tricky since the availability is quite limited and the tickets are quite popular). Even with my expertise, I didn't quite know how to navigate the systems, where to find the deals, and how to combine my different programs together.
After much research, I decided to hire one of the few frequent flyer points consultants out there to help me. Sure, there are loads of blogs and businesses that discuss points and credit cards (like The Points Guy) - giving countless tips on how to do it yourself - but I wanted someone to do it for me, and that was a tall order! It took some digging, but I finally found James Lee, who founded his own consultancy, Juicy Miles, and then later joined Point.Me.
