Intel: A Luxury Visit, without the Price
Yes, you can visit the most luxurious hotels on the cheap.

We visit lots of luxury hotels. (I visited 10 different properties just last weekend in Madrid). Checking out and reviewing hotels for our clients has always been part of our business! But, we don’t necessarily have to pay an exorbitant room rate to see what’s on offer. (Unfortunately, we just don’t have the budget to actually stay at all of the ones on our list…)
So, how do you just 'visit' a luxury hotel? It’s easy:
- Just walk in. In most city hotels, you can just stroll in to take a peek at the lobby. We suggest being properly dressed, and walking in with confidence as though you are meeting someone. For isolated resorts, it’s best to make a reservation, as mentioned in #3, 4, or 5 below.
- Go to the bar. Often times, hotels love to have you pay for a drink while you settle in.
- Make a restaurant reservation.
- Make a spa reservation. You’ll often times gain access to all the features of the spa (sauna, pools) all day long with a paid massage treatment.
- Purchase a day pass. Some places offer a way to use their pool or beach. Check out ResortPass.
- Ask for a Room Tour. On rare occasions, you can ask to see a guest room when the hotel isn’t full. A staff member will guide you up to check out the room. But, don’t touch anything and don’t sit on the bed!
- Or be denied entry, but thank the staff anyway. A few properties allow overnight guests only. Many Aman Resorts have such a policy, for example. But most hotels will welcome you with open arms, especially if you are frequenting their food & beverage venues.
