Tell us about your academic focus:
I'm interested in the growth of network commensality (pop-ups, supper clubs, etc.) and how these experiences contribute to alternative economies of hospitality. I research social interactions, use of space, understanding of tradition, background and upbringing in creating memorable meal experiences from both a guest and host perspective.
What is dining out in Glasgow like now?
The Glasgow food scene is really strong at the moment, you just need to step out of the city centre a bit to get to the best places. Argyle Street in the area of Finnieston is also worth checking out as it has really stepped up in terms of food/drink - it’s a street with great places to explore.
Gavin’s Glasgow Dining Picks:
Sylvan - specializing in vegetarian and vegan cuisine
Saint Luke’s & The Winged Ox - a new concert venue
Made From Grapes - wine bar and shop
Ka Pao - Southeast Asian cuisine in an old garage
Sugo Pasta - fresh pasta made daily
Gaga - Malaysian cuisine and cocktails in a diner setting
Bramble - a can’t-miss brunch spot
Sunny Acre - bakery and cafe
