Listen: Putumayo North African Groove
For Dreaming of: Jams from Egypt to Morocco
Who doesn’t love a good Putumayo album?! If you’re a lover of foreign culture and were developing your global tastebuds in the early 2000s, you probably had a dozen of these eclectic CD albums, just like me!
Their “North African Groove” album is a lively, jammed-up mix of French and Arabic from all of North Africa, including hits from Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, and of course, 2 features from Morocco:
“Un Mot de Toi” by Rhany Kabbadj
“Aal Eih” by Samira Said
My personal favorite is Tunisian singer Amina Annabi’s “Dis-moi Pourquoi.”
Moroccan or not, just listen to the whole album to put yourself in the North African Groove.
