Experience: Oberoi Spa
A pampered day trip in an extraordinary resort.
Marrakech, Morocco
Marrakech has no shortage of luxury hotels – some of the world’s best in fact. From the overrated La Mamounia, to the opulent Aman and Royal Mansour, one has a choice to stay nearby the central Medina or out in one of the even more posh resorts in the countryside. I personally choose to stay in neither–opting for the intimacy of a riad in town. But, in booking a spa appointment or dinner reservation, I get to experience the best of both worlds, and luxuriate at one of these posh properties for the day.
The Indian-based, overly luxurious Oberoi just so happens to be my favorite indulgent day trip in Marrakech. The spa is surrounded by papyrus-filled water gardens, and guests have the option to use their big indoor pool while waiting for their treatments. I adore the “sultan’s” hammam treatment, where a same-sex attendant scrubs and massages you on a marble slab inside a beautiful, private steam room, and then positions you on a plush lounge chair with hot tea just in time to watch the sunset. There is an alfresco bar and restaurant at the resort – and if you get your appointment timing right, you’ll be leaving the spa right for a gourmet dinner by torchlight.
Hammam treatments from 130 usd.
