Curated Scottish ingredients at Edinburgh’s most elegant dining room.
Edinburgh, Scotland
An esteemed recommendation from one of our Scottish culinary insiders, this fine dining establishment in a trendy neighborhood just minutes from Edinburgh’s Royal Mile gets nearly unanimous five-star reviews from anyone who visits. Meaning “true” in Gaelic, the proprietor-chef team seeks to honor Scotland’s bespoke farmers and food producers, while showcasing ingredients in an artistic and creative manner. Think 10-course tasting menus, even at lunch, with beautifully-presented scallops, duck, beets, asparagus, and North Sea fish. Even the bread is noted as a highlight, as is the knowledgeable sommelier. More than several reviewers said the portions are just right, and considering the experience for the price, “it’s a steal.” The dining room has a swath of open reservations throughout the summer, so it’s not one of those places that you need to set an alarm to score a booking. Open since 2018, it’s surprising that this restaurant hasn’t yet earned a Michelin star ... but surely it’s on the way.

Every publication will feature one unique restaurant, hotel, activity, or other travel discovery that stood out in our research. Some of these are established institutions that deserve repeat merit, while others are hidden gems that are often off the radar of most. Our commentary is meant to be brief, summarizing the scale and offerings of a place, as well as the best and worst of relevant reviews found across the web – allowing our clients to quickly discern if this a good fit for them.
